Zusammenfassung: This bachelorthesis deals with the art-historical classification and the development of a conservation concept for a casket from a private collection.
The focus of the art-historical analysis lies in answering the questions concerning regional classification and dating. To what extent can the geographical origin of the casket be narrowed down or determined, and during which period was it made?
For this purpose, a comparative stylistic analysis with objects of similar manufacture is conducted, as well as a scientifically supported age determination using dendrochronological analysis.
In addition to the question of origin, this thesis addresses the issue of conservation. What measures can ensure the preservation of the object without compromising its authenticity?
To answer this question, cleaning tests are carried out using established methods of conservation science, which serve as the basis for developing a conservation concept. The focus here is particularly on the conservation treatment of the inlays/intarsia.
