| Zusammenfassung: | The development and implementation of a sustainable conservation strategy for the polychrome stone sculpture of Saint Anthony of Padua (circa 1750) from the Saint Anthony Chapel in Orth an der Donau, Lower Austria, is the focus of this thesis. The strategy includes a restoration concept developed through participatory methods and pursues a community- based conservation approach by actively involving the local community. Through material- technical analyses and the documentation of the preserved condition, both the art historical significance and the strong social anchoring of this monument are highlighted. The thesis demonstrates that the preservation of monuments, especially those not under official protection, can be secured through communal responsibility and the identification of the local population. This approach serves as a model for comparable projects and emphasizes the role of such cultural assets as essential elements of cultural identity. |
