| Zusammenfassung: | In the present thesis, different plant-based hydrogels are examined. The technical literature is evaluated in regard to types of hydrogels used in paper conservation. Recipes for the preparation of hydrogels based on gellan gum and agar agar are documented, which have been applied in order to reduce tidelines and discolorations, to reduce and soften adhesives, as well as to introduce active agents such as bleaches, enzymes and solutions for deacidification. A series of experiments is carried out using naturally aged test papers and gels based on gellan gum and agar agar in order to reduce tidelines and to remove a paper backing. Furthermore, the application impact of sodium- and calcium citrate is examined as a bleaching agent in gels based on gellan gum and agar agar. The newest developments found in technical literature concerning plant-based hydrogels, e. g. the use of sensors, are mentioned. Related materials of plant-based hydrogels, like e. g. synthetic hydrogels and microgels are explained briefly. |
