Merit Leona Kahl: A four-piece furniture of the 18th century from the Municipal Museum Brunswick diagnosis-assurance and conservation concept back

Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: A structural break of chairs is one of the most common problems in the conservation of furniture. Because of their small component cross-sections and their general use, they are under increased physical stress. Wood-destroying insects favor the weakening of the wood substance with a result of failure or break of the construction parts. The treatment of a chair is given as an example for the consolidation and realignment of the joining parts. A reinforcement and bonding system is to be discussed.
The chair is part of a four-piece seating group from the 18th century, from the Municipal Museum of Brunswick. According to the materials and techniques used, it can be attributed to the region of Brunswick, Lower Saxony. Art-technologic examinations, as well as a comparison of similar pieces from Brunswick, are used for a more precise art-historical attribution.
The seating group has diverse conditional problems. In order to safe the current state, the latter is going to be described, mapped and photographed.
