Hornemann Kolleg for restoration and preservation

Hornemann Kolleg 16: Aus den Berliner Museen (from Berlin's museums) (probably not before winter semester 2021/22)

Since the event format of the Hornemann Kolleg is based not only on knowledge transfer, but also on personal encounters, the Kolleg will not restart until attendance events with 100 persons are permitted again, i.e. probably not before the 2021/22 winter semester.   

We invite colleagues from Berlin's museums to the 16th college in order to get to know the work of our not so distant neighbours better. We asked an art historian, a conservator and a natural scientist to report on their handling of the cultural assets entrusted to them.

Within the international conference The Fragment in the Digital Age, this lecture will take place as a hybrid event, i.e. a smaller group will be physically present in the HAWK premises, while a larger part will participate online.

(Laurana's head. Dealing with sculptures fragmented since 1945)

For the time being, the events are accessible only to vaccinated, recovered and negatively tested persons (3G model).

The events always take place wednesdays at 18:30 h and begin with a 45-60 minute lecture, followed by discussion and casual conversation with drinks and snacks. The so-called "Alte Bibliothek" (Old Library), a  medieval half-timbered house in the courtyard of Brühl 20 in Hildesheim provides a pleasant setting for this purpose. The lectures are public, admission is free.

The history of the Hornemann Kolleg:
For the past 30 years, the restoration study programs, the research projects and the cooperative programs with foreign universities at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Hildesheim/Holzminden/Göttingen (HAWK) have been special, exclusive programs that no other university in northern Germany was able to offer. They are among the study programs that give the university its respected international reputation. But we are moving in a network of collegues- within the HAWK, in the region, in the country and internationally, of course - and also for all projects in the international dialogue with colleagues of other related fields.

At the suggestion of students the Hornemann Institute of the HAWK takes up this network activity, and organizes in collaboration with the Student Council a new lecture and discussion series with several public and free of charge events, the so-called “Hornemann Kolleg for restoration and preservation".
The aim is to enrich the curriculum with current issues and to support the professional orientation.
